Welcome to an interactive conference on biobanking

Biobanking has become hot, and rather quickly. The technology, the claims and the investments are increasing, but what is the value we are chasing? The route from a human biological sample and registry data to real benefit for patients and public health is complex. Many activities make up this route: funding, ethical review, data protection, sample and data collection, storage and bioinformatics. Each is intended to add value, but how do we make sure we see and increase the benefits?

On September 20-21, BBMRI.se together with BBMRI.fi and Biobank Norway arranges an interactive conference where we invite researchers, policymaker, and industry to help understand and improve the route from sample to result. An interactive exhibition allows you to follow ‘the route’ from sample to result. We will use interactive workshops, an interactive exhibition, lectures, debates, posters, lunches and coffee breaks to discuss and develop ideas for getting the best out of biobanking.

THEMES: There are eight major themes to this conference: We will discuss the research process (ethics & regulation, biobanking practice,sample analysis, and data analysis) and the value of biobanking (ethics & trust, health economy, clinical practice and drug development). These themes are echoed in our interactive exhibition ‘the route’, in keynote lectures, educational sessions and a knowledge sharing programme. There are also a number of interactive workshops and debates where these issues can be discussed in more detail.
