  • The Swedish life science industry has had the most rapid growth of all sectors in Sweden during the last 10 years. It has a strong potential to become a new cornerstone in the Swedish economy.

  • Sweden has over 800 life science companies involved in medical device, pharmaceutical delvelopment and biotech tools and supply.

  • The Swedish life science companies are focused on development of pharmaceuticals and medicine, so called healthcare biotechnology.

  • 33 pharmaceutical companies have 74 projects in Phase I-III (excluding AstraZeneca).

  • Stockholm-Uppsala Bioregion being the largest

  • Medicon Valley around Malmö-Lund 

  • Medcoast around Gothenburg

    Other centres with advanced biotechnology research and high quality companies include Linköping and Umeå.
